Accessibility improvement with ramp and safety railing

Design and installation of a safety railing with perforated sheet metal on an access ramp to improve accessibility and safety for people with reduced mobility in the Community of Madrid.

This community needed to adapt its main access ramp to comply with current accessibility regulations. We installed a railing system with perforated sheet metal panels that guarantees safe transit on the ramp, providing visual and physical support without obstructing ventilation or natural light.

Technical characteristics:

The safety railing is composed of galvanized perforated sheet metal panels that act as side protection on the access ramp. The geometric perforation allows for visibility and ventilation while providing the necessary sense of security for people with reduced mobility. The structure is completed with ergonomic handrails at the required height.

Specific elements for accessibility:

  • Safety side railing along the entire length of the ramp
  • Continuous handrail at standard height (90-110cm)
  • Non-slip perforated sheet panels
  • Eye protection that prevents vertigo in the elderly
  • Reinforced anchors to support body support
  • Textured finish on handrails for better grip

Regulatory compliance

The installation complies with the Technical Building Code (CTE) and universal accessibility regulations. The ramp is fully protected laterally, eliminating the risk of falls and providing confidence to users with canes, walkers, or wheelchairs.

Benefits achieved:

This project demonstrates how technical solutions can combine safety, functionality, and design to create truly accessible and safe spaces for all users.
